In January, 2010, my brother and I photographed birds wintering in the Florida Everglades. The weather was cooler and drier than normal, so the birds were inactive and congregated around the few marshes that had not dried up. I am tempted to tell you that we had to wade through the swamps and wait hours to get each shot, but the truth is that these birds were so dormant that we could pet them.
